I was fishing today in PA, a place called off old state road. there's a pond with pickerel, catfish, large mouth bass . well i put a night crawler on and cast out set it down to put a worm on my second rod and all i herd was a big splash...... there goes my rod. so i put a lure on the sexy shad. to hit bottom to try to see if i could hook my line or the rod but got nothing... i believe it was a big pickerel.....

I guess I should have completed the statement by saying there is and has never been any species of carp in Pickerel Pond.

No species of carp are native to North America, but several species have been introduced from Europe and Asia. Koi are simply fancy color variations of the European carp or common carp (Cyprinus carpio) that has been widely introduced in North America as well as other parts of the world. My poiint is that if common carp are already living in Pickerel Pond, it would make no difference to the ecology of the pond if somebody dumped a few koi into it. If, on the other hand, Pickerel Pond has no common carp already living in it, it would be an ecological blunder, if not a disaster, if someone dumped koi into it since this species drastically alters the ecology of lakes and rivers once it is introduced into them.

The article doesn't mention if wild carp are already established in Pickerel Pond. If they are, these koi are nothing to get excited about since they are simply interestng color versions of the wild carp. If they're not, then the koi are certainly something to get excited about since this is a new, non-native species being introduced into this body of water.
