In Bethel, Maine Scheduled for September 16 & 17

The Upper Andro Two Fly Contest and Northeast Drift Boat Championship are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, September 16 and 17, 2011, in conjunction with Bethel’s Annual Harvest Fest. The competitions are the annual fund-raisers for the Upper Andro Anglers Alliance, a non-profit group dedicated to the conservation, protection, restoration and promotion of the natural fishing resource of the Upper Androscoggin River, its tributaries, watershed and environs.

Contestants may use only two flies during the event, which starts at 6:00 am on Saturday. Teams may launch from public launch sites from the New Hampshire border at Shelburne to Rumford Center. The contest concludes at 1:00 pm. Read more

Maine Free Family Fishing Festival – 2011

The Upper Andro Anglers Alliance in co-operation with Trout Unlimited will host a free family fishing festival on Saturday, June 4. The festival will be held at Angevine Park on the North Road in Bethel, from 9 am to 2 pm, rain or shine. Free casting workshops and fly-tying instruction will be available throughout the day.

Local Maine guides and members of the Mollyockett Chapter of Trout Unlimited will teach the workshops. Instruction will include both spin casting and fly casting for older youth and parents. Maine’s Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs Program will supply complimentary rods and reels for use at the festival.

Families can practice newly learned casting skills in the one acre pond and are welcome to take home their catch. The pond will be stocked with trout courtesy of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Each young angler will receive a mini-tackle box complete with bobber, sinkers and hook courtesy of the Upper Andro Anglers Alliance. Read more

Fishing Stocking On Upper Andro Preparing For Two-Fly Contest

Matt Rinkus, from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Casco Fish Hatchery releases brook trout into the Androscoggin River at Newt’s Landing in West Bethel Thursday. In all the department was stocking 740 brook trout, 500 brown trout and 600 salmon into the upper reaches of the Androscoggin River between Gilead and Bethel to Bethel. DIFW also placed 10 trophy size rainbow trout averaging 5 pounds in weight in the river in anticipation of the 2 Fly Fishing Tournament and Drift Boat Competition set for Saturday.[9/18/10]

2010 UAAA Two-Fly Contest & Drift Boat Championship Info And Rules

The contest is scheduled from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm (sunrise 6:34) on Saturday, September 18, 2009. Rain or shine. Each team consists of two anglers and an oarsman. Fishing from drift boats only. No wade fishing. Anglers will be fishing for three species of trout-brown, brook and rainbow. Small mouth, fall fish (chub) or any other species will not be accepted. Teams are responsible for their Maine and/or NH State Fishing Licenses, cameras and digital images. UAAA will supply a retractable measuring tape, fish cards, and bag lunch. Awards will be presented to the angler with the biggest fish, greatest number of fish caught and for the team catching the greatest number of fish. The oarsman may fish for pleasure only. Oarsman’s name and team will be engraved on The Rocky Freda Turtle Water Perpetual trophy for team with the greatest catch.

Mollyockett Days Float And Parade

This is the lead drift boat of our 3 drift boat “Flotilla” in the Mollyockett Days Parade with Fran Head as Captain and her grandchildren and neighborhood kids riding. We tossed 1440 individually wrapped Swedish fish candies to the kids in the crowd.

New England Outdoor Writers Association Will Gather In Bethel

NEOWA 2010 Scholarship Awards Banquet and Spring Safari. May 21-23, Bethel, Maine.

Events will include turkey hunting, fishing, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, golf and sightseeing, in addition to meetings, great meals and interacting with other writers and associates. There will also be a preview of Gray Ghost Productions latest fly-fishing movie, “The Good Life“.
